This past weekend, the Whippets saw action in their first game of Hilary Term and first home game of the academic year at Iffley Road against Bristol University Medical School RFC. The occasion was marked by mild weather and ample sunshine for a 2pm kickoff. Both sides showed great toughness in defense and inspiration on attack throughout the match. The Whippets strung together plenty of high-flying offloads, and Bristol Medics showed off a series of dazzling training ground moves to ship the ball wide. In the end the Whippets were unable to recover from a pair of quick early tries by the Medics who took the lead and never relinquished, although the game was intense and Doggies spirit on full display to the last whistle. The match ended 26-7 in favour of the visitors. The two teams met to exchange thank-yous and laughter over a meal in the Pavilion after the match, where great fun was had by all.
