For what was many of the Panthers 2nd ever game of rugby, they all put in a great performance. The game was frenetic from the outset with Northampton immediately piling on the pressure. In an attritional first half, they were able to get through to score. However, after some great running breaks and consistent pressure in their 22, Ella Gallagher crossed over for the first Panthers try of the season just before half time.
After a jubilant team talk, the Panthers went back out and piled the pressure onto Northampton. Some amazing running breaks led to tries for Izzy Hedges and Amelie Paterson, which gave the Panthers a 15-5 lead going into the final quarter of the game.
Unfortunately, Panthers’ concentration dropped, and Northampton scored twice in quick succession. This left the game level 15-15 in the final few minutes, with the Panthers kicking off, looking to secure their first win of the season. The line from kick off was strong and put pressure on their receipt, allowing for secured ball in their half. A brilliant running line from Charlotte Scowen broke through their defence for her to score the winning try.
The win was well-earned, as both sides fought hard. It was also incredibly impressive for the team to bounce back from their last game, to win so well in their first home match of the season.
