BATTLE FOR THE CITY IS BACK!

ree

Battle for the City returns! On Friday 21st November local bragging rights are put on the line as OURFC Men*s Blues take on OBURFC Men’s 1XV in an epic Friday Night Lights at Iffley Road. The most anticipated match of term kicks-off at 7:15pm and tickets are available here.

The last Battle for the City saw both teams battling torrential rain as well as each other on a cold February night. Despite temperamental weather conditions the OURFC Men*s Blues took a comfortable victory of 45-8. Both teams brought physicality, but it was Brookes that had the first score of the game as their forwards powered through the Blue’s backline. The boys in Dark Blue needed to regroup; with a few high balls from Harry Bridgewater (#1284), they pushed Brookes back in their 22. Several fast-attacking lines saw the Men*s Blues go into half time 20-8 up. After an energised half-time talk the Blues stormed back onto the pitch and flew straight into an attacking line. Several cross-field kicks saw Ben Shaw (#1323) and Tom Mewes (#1290) successfully cross the white line. Brookes kept up their defensive efforts but the Blue’s managed to maintain a high-skill level throughout the evening. By the 75th minute the Brookes fans cheers had dimmed and as the Blue’s put another two tries on the scoreboard, the silence from the pink army became instant. It was a brilliant night of rugby for the Men*s Blues and the final moments of the game saw Ben Hartigan (#1314) flop over the tryline to cap off a glorious Dark Blue performance. Full match report available here.
