Want to tackle 5th week blues? What better way than coming down to Iffley Road on Wednesday to support the Women*s Blues!
Women*s Blues take on Swansea on Wednesday 12th of November at 7pm. A staple fixture in the BUCS calendar for the last few seasons, Swansea always proves a tough opposition for the Blues. A match-up of Oxford speed and a defence built on collective communication against Welsh physicality dominated by set-piece and ruck speed, it’s sure to be an intense must-watch match.

Last time Swansea visited Iffley Road, the Blues came away with an assured victory of 22-5. It was the opening match of the 24/25 BUCS season and it’s safe to say that it set the tone for the rest of the season. Despite a rocky start to the match, the Blues quickly countered with a try from current Blues captain Chloe-Marie Hawley. For the remainder of that first half Swansea didn’t enter the Oxford 22, and Sophie Shams scored a try on the half taking the Blues 10-5 into half time. As the rained poured onto Iffley Road, the Blues came back onto the pitch for the second half full of confidence; confidence that carried through into the play with 24/25 captain Alex Wilkinson scoring her first try of the season. The try was successfully converted by Mel Morley. Despite the best efforts of Swansea to counterattack, the Blues defence was too strong, and their resilience was awarded as Alex Wilkinson skipped down the wing for another try. The last minutes of the match saw a back-and-forth between both teams, but the Blues came away victorious with a scoreline of 22-5. Full match report available here.

Will this Wales-England match-up reflect the performance of their international counterparts? Well, the only way to find out is to come down to Iffley Road on Wednesday. Come support the Dark Blues!
