The Greyhounds was founded in 1923, and played their inaugural match in November against the Old Edwardians at Iffley Road. According to the match report in The Times, the Greyhounds side “consisted almost entirely of players who had taken part in the early trial matches.”, and won by 41 points to 11.
Oxford University Greyhounds RFC was founded as a formal club for the 2nd XV at the university in the 1922/23 season when it became obvious that a channel needed to be found for the many players from the colleges who were close to winning a Blue against Cambridge but didn’t. Games against the Cambridge 2nd XV, the LX Club, then began immediately and have continued annually to this day.
