Jonny
Fennell completed a BA in international studies at University
College Dublin, and then moved on to read for a M.St in Historical
Research, here at Oxford. He is currently reading for a D.Phil
in History.
The pride of Pembroke, JF is the only no. 10 called Jonny
that is equally comfortable playing a conservative English
style of rugby or a more exciting Super 12-style expansive
game. He has plied his trade in Ireland (De La Selle Palmerstown
and St Mary’s college FRC) and Lyon, France where they
are only just recovering from the stir ‘the body’ created
among the women folk.
If there’s a ball involved Jonny’s probably good
at the sport. He has proven his competence at cricket, badminton,
golf and earned a blue for Gaelic football. And in Japan he
showed that if rugby and history doesn’t work out, he’s
always got baseball to fall back on…
But Jonny is most famous for his trademark goal kicking. He
is one of the few players in world rugby who has to factor
in the amount by which the grass will grow during his run up.
Always the last to leave the field, Jonny is a truly hard competitor.
And he would rather be playing flank…
